Mouthguards and Splints
Mouthguards
If you or your family members play contact sports regularly – such as football, boxing, rugby, basketball, hockey, water polo and netball – then you may need to consider having a custom-made mouthguard to prevent impact teeth injuries during a game. At TC Dental Group, our custom-made mouthguards are designed to fit your teeth precisely. They absorb the shock when a blow or trauma to your face might otherwise result in a mouth or jaw injury. A correctly fitted mouthguard not only prevents and minimises injuries to your teeth, but also to your lips, cheeks, tongue and jaw.
Imagine the cost and time needed to receive crowns, veneers or other types of cosmetic dentistry in order to repair dental injuries due to playing contact sports. Mouthguards can save you time, expense and discomfort of these dental procedures while protecting your smile.

Splints
Have you ever wondered why – after a good night sleep – you still wake up with a headache or neck, shoulder or back pain? These symptoms could be caused by the involuntary and unconscious grinding of your teeth (bruxism) at night. If you grind your teeth during sleep, there is a greater risk that your teeth will wear down unevenly – since your bite force is much greater during sleep compared to when you are awake.
To improve the quality of your sleep and protect your teeth, you should talk us about having an occlusal splint made for you. At TC Dental Group, your splint is custom-made from high quality acrylic. When wearing a splint at night, you can help prevent damage to your teeth from clenching or grinding. Eventually all related symptoms such as jaw pain, a sore neck and other physical injuries will diminish. However, stress is a major cause of teeth grinding so we may recommend stress management therapy and techniques to help you manage teeth grinding.
If you think you may be grinding your teeth, give us a call for a consultation. We are only too happy to discuss all possible treatment options with you.
